The most common instrument in the world?
When I first started playing at the age of 13 practically everybody wanted to play the guitar and really, little has changed despite threats by the electronic world to displace this deceptively complex instrument.
It’s now 40 years since I began, and as Segovia once told his son what he did for a living, I also (continue to) study the guitar in an effort to become the best guitarist and musician that I possibly can. I spent a long period of my life as a performing musician and now I predominantly teach. Let’s see if I can put some useful thoughts into these pages.
I have yet to answer what makes a complete guitarist, but I suspect it has a lot to do with patience, perseverance and curiosity and a desire to always be growing, exploring technique without losing the main objective of being as musical as possible.
